LADDER SAFETY KITS

We are now able to offer a range of Ladder Safety Kits, assembled from a selection of industry proven component parts all manufactured to the required EN standards.

The standard ladder safety kit consists of a full body EN361 harness, with front and rear attachment points, available in three sizes. Two EN1891A 10m long safety ropes fitted with EN362 safety snap hooks. The "Viper" fall arrester complete with Karabiner. A "Cows tail" lanyard. two BS Ratchet straps for securing the main ladder 6m and cat ladder 1.5m, and the new fixing kit with 2 reuseable 8mm multi material screw eyes and a 8mm SDS Masonary drill. Large carry bag that will accommodate extra equipment or other items of PPE.

NOTE: The old screw wall anchor kit in the picture has now been replaced with the reusable Excalibur anchor bolt kit - Detail are at the bottom of this page.

The VIPER fall arrester shown attached to the safety rope. The device is very simple to attach and has the minimum of working parts. The design greatly reduces the irritating problem of snagging on the rope when descending the ladders. The screw gate karabiner can be changed for a Twistlock if prefered, please confirm when ordering.

We provide our customers with the option of fitting the safety rope with either the modern Double locking snap hook with a 60mm opening (right) or the Manucroche stainless steel connector (Left) still found on some obsolete kits. Our ropes are attached using the "Scaffolders knot" with a nylon thimble eye and each knot is then tensioned to 1kN and finally secured with a heat shrink adhesive sleeve

We are able to provide customers with their choice of harness (Style and Size), fall arresters and other component parts. We offer a basic kit for use with just an extension ladder and can manufacture safety ropes of any length to suit your needs.

Unlike some suppliers, every part of the kit is available as a spare part should an item become lost or damaged.

To reduce the consumable items in the old wall anchor kit we have introduced the anchor eye bolt kit. All the parts required to achieve a strong anchor to secure a ladder to the wall are contained in the kit. Each eye bolt can be re-used many times. The kit alleviates the need to carry two drill bits, 10mm and 17mm and the need for plastic plugs is also eliminated.

Each kit consists of an SDS 8mm masonry drill and two anchor eye anchor bolts. The Eye bolts can be used in any material even steel. They will cut their own thread and will not need wall plugs to give a secure hold. Easily removed they leave a small hole in the customers wall that can be filled with silicone in the usual manner.

Drill an 8mm Dia hole in the brick to a depth of 60mm. The extra depth is required to take the dust caused by the cutting action of the tread on the anchor eye bolt.  When drilling brick avoid the "Frog" by drilling in the bottom third of the brick. The hole should be neat and straight. Unlike the expanding rubber grommet, the anchor eye bolt can be positioned close to the edge of brick work without the risk of splitting the brick.

Insert into the pre drilled hole and apply pressure whilst turning the eye bolt to start the cutting process. For hard concrete blocks it may be necessary to use a suitable tool (Large screw driver) to assist in turning the eye bolt. If a resistance is felt before the eye bolt is fully inserted, back wind a half turn (to clear the dust) and then continue.

Tighten the eye bolt using a large screw driver until a firm resistance is felt. Do not over tighten as this will reduce the strength of the anchor.

Using the ladder ratchet stabilising strap, secure the ladder in the normal manner. Each kit contains two eye bolts allowing the longer ratchet straps to be used to cover a longer run of wall, when securing cable runs.

After removing the eye bolt, the small 8mm diameter hole left can be easily made good by using the accepted methods. NOTE: For re-visits the original hole can be reused to place the eye bolt ready to secure the ladder.

Having removed the anchor eye bolt, clean off any surface dust left on the threads and the anchor is ready for re-use. It is difficult to determine the life expectancy of an eye bolt as its use in common brick work will be far greater than one use in hard concrete blocks. It is down to the individual installer to determine if a satisfactory hold is achieved. Our test have indicated a 4kN fixing can be easily achieved. Replacement anchor eye bolts and SDS drill bits are available as spares or as complete kits.
